How to Create a Custom Template with LabelSuite™

This guide will take you through the basics of creating your own custom label using the template creation tool LabelSuite™. Included in this guide:

  • Loading pre-made, blank, or saved templates
  • Setting the size of your custom label
  • Adding/positioning text boxes & images
  • Adding barcodes
  • Printing the final design

To Create a Custom Size Label Template:

  1. From the LabelSuite™ Main Menu, select the Custom Size option.
  2. Set the Supply Width to the size of your vinyl stock and the Length to the desired length of your label.
  3. Select either the Portrait or Landscape orientation to differentiate between a Horizontal/Vertical label.
  4. To adjust the Unit of Measurement, select either Inches or Centimeters.
  5. When ready, select the Create Label option to begin editing.

Adding/Editing Text for Your Label Template:

  1. To add text to your label, select the Insert tab from the top-left of the editing window.
  2. Select either the Scalable or Paragraph option to add a text box to your template. (Note: Scalable text boxes will adjust font size in proportion to text box size.) Once selected, a small text box will appear in the editing window.
  3. To change Paragraph text to Scalable text and vice versa, right-click on the text box and select the Convert option.
  4. To edit the text displayed, double-click within the text box and type the desired wording.
  5. Adjust the font by selecting the Style tab from the top-middle of the editor and using the font drop-down menu.
  6. Adjust the text size for Paragraph Text by selecting the small arrows next to the font drop-down menu. You can manually input the desired point size in this box as well.
  7. Adjust the text size for Scaleable Text by dragging the text box to the desired size.
  8. To bold, italicize, or underline your text, select the desired option from within the Style tab.
  9. Change the text alignment (left/center/right) from the Style tab.
  10. You can adjust the Paragraph/Line Spacing by right-clicking on your text box and selecting Paragraph.
  11. To rotate text, drag the rotate the symbol above your text box in the desired direction. Use the Rotation option from the top-right of the editing screen to set a specific value (45°, 90°, 180°, etc.).
  12. To align text to your template, select the View tab from the top-middle of the editing screen and select the desired alignment option.

Adding Images to Your Label Template:

  1. Select the Insert tab from the top-left of the editing window.
  2. Click on the Image option to open the Windows Explorer.
  3. Navigate to and highlight the desired image file and then select Open to add the image to your template.
  4. Resize and position the image as you would scalable text.
  5. To rotate your image, adjust the Rotation option from the top-right of the editing screen (90°, 180°, etc.).

Adding Barcodes:

  1. Select the Barcodes tab from the top-left of the editor.
  2. Choose the desired barcode type from the list of displayed options (Code128, Code39, UPC A, etc.) – a small barcode will be added to your template.
  3. Input the information you would like scanned by double-clicking on the barcode example and typing the desired information.
  4. Select the Barcode tab from the top-middle of the editor to select further options for your barcode (Human Readable, Show Checksum and Include Checksum – NOTE: If using Code39, please disable the Checksum options before printing).
  5. To rotate the barcode, drag the rotate symbol in the desired direction. You can also adjust the Rotation option from the top-right of the editing screen to set a specific value (45°, 90°, 180°, etc.).

Adjusting Printer Properties:

Die-Cut and Black-Mark supply will require adjusting certain Printer Properties prior to printing. You can also adjust the Print Speed and Darkness settings by using the Printer Properties feature. Note: Any changes made to these settings within LabelSuite™ will be temporary and settings will revert to their defaults upon closing LabelSuite™.

  1. Select the LabelSuite™ tab from the top-left of the editor.
  2. To access the Properties Menu, select the Settings option.
  3. To print specialty supply, select the Stock tab and adjust the Type to "Labels with Gaps" or "Labels with Marks" (to print solid-color supply, select "Continuous").
  4. Adjust the Print Speed and Darkness by selecting the Options tab and adjusting these settings as desired.
  5. Select OK to apply any changes.

Printing Your Label:

  1. Select the LabelSuite™ tab from the top-left of the editor.
  2. If you have multiple printers, you can change the model being printed by choosing the Select Printer icon.
  3. For a preview of your final design, select the Preview checkbox.
  4. When ready, set the # Copies desired and then choose the Print option to begin printing your labels.
